Global Politics: A major turning point is being seen in current international politics. While America is retreating from global forums and multilateral organizations, on the other hand, China has become the leader in the race to become the world’s new ‘superpower’ by filling this vacant space. A recent international survey has claimed that China’s global influence will increase unprecedentedly in the coming decades.
America’s ‘Exit’ and China’s ‘Entry’
In early 2026, US President Donald Trump announced his withdrawal from 66 multilateral organizations and initiatives related to climate change, labor and migration. Trump has called these plans reckless and against the country’s interests. China is directly benefiting from this retreat of America. China is now becoming more diplomatically active and increasing direct dialogue with leaders of Western countries.

China’s Agenda for an Equal World Order
In a recent meeting with the leaders of Canada, Finland and the UK in Beijing, President Xi Jinping clearly indicated that the current international order is under great pressure. China now wants a world order where all countries are treated ‘equally and balanced’. Analysts believe that the large power gap between the US and China that existed before is now gradually narrowing.
China’s New Weapon
The developing countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America (the Global South) are extremely important in China’s strategy. Through the ‘Belt and Road Initiative’ (BRI), launched in 2013, China has invested heavily in these countries and has exerted its influence. For China, the support of these countries is like a ‘protective shield’ against pressure from Western countries.
